HOW TO START A TRAVEL SOCCER CLUB
You do not start a travel
soccer club because you want to coach. If that is the reason, you
should try to join the coaching staff at one of your areas clubs. If you
are a recreational soccer coach you first need to obtain an E License
through FYSA before you can coach on a travel team. Most leagues
and clubs require an upgrade to a D License after the first year.
Additionally, coaches should considering obtaining their Advanced
Regional License from NSCAA and upgrade accordingly.
Established clubs look for coaches with years of travel training and
coaching experience. It helps if you played collegiate, semi-pro or
professional soccer.
If your city does not have a
travel club and the demographics support one, the process is straight
forward. You obtain from FYSA an Affiliation Application. If
you meet the stringent requirements of FYSA, your application will be
reviewed by the FYSA board. Try to submit your application by January
because the approval process is long.
In South Florida, it is
extremely difficult to obtain affiliation if there are competing clubs
in your immediate area.
